EMANUEL SUTER ATTRIBUTED, ROCKINGHAM CO., SHENANDOAH VALLEY OF VIRGINIA EARTHENWARE / REDWARE / STONEWARE CHIMNEY THIMBLES, LOT OF TWO, comprising a salt-glazed stoneware example with a "12x6" size stamp on top of rim and an unglazed earthenware/redware example with flaring flanged rim.

Condition: Earthenware example having scattered chips and flakes to flanged rim; stoneware example having rim with a 3" x 3 1/2" area of loss and two chips.

Circa : 1870-1900.

Item Dimensions: 11 3/4" and 12" H.

Provenance : From the collection of Dr. Scott H. Suter, Bridgewater, VA.
Stoneware example: Jeffrey S. Evans (T/A GVA), 6/28/2008, lot 186 (partial).
Ex-collection of Elizabeth and Frank Suter.

Attribution : Earthenware example probably Emanuel Suter (1833-1902), New Erection Pottery (1866-1890), west of Harrisonburg, VA; stoneware example probably Suter's Harrisonburg Steam Pottery (1890-1900).
