JAMES RIVER, VIRGINIA DECORATED STONEWARE JAR, salt-glazed, approximately one-gallon capacity, ovoid form with collared squared rim, a single incised shoulder ring, and applied arched handles. Brushed cobalt opposing leaf decoration on each side executed in a stencil-like manner, additional cobalt at handle terminals.

Condition: Having minor chip and flake to handle, a chip to rim, and "Y"-shaped hairline below one handle. Manufacturing flaws including slumping rim, as made.

Circa : 1840-1860.
