VIRGINIA MERCHANT'S STENCILED STONEWARE JAR, salt-glazed, designated four-gallon capacity, cylindrical form with a slight shoulder, a flat-top rounded rim, beaded neck ring, applied arched handles having heavy groove, and Albany-slip glazed interior. Stenciled cobalt "LIPSCOMB & / SOMERVILLE, / STAUNTON, Va.", with additional ornamental bands.
