Catalogue Note: Garnet Jex lived most of his life in the Northern Virginia/Washington, DC area. He was a renowned artist, illustrator, art editor, teacher, and designer. He attended the Corcoran College of Art and Design, and earned his BA and master's degrees from George Washington University. His works are held by the Smithsonian American Art Museum, the National Portrait Gallery, Harpers Ferry National Historical Park, and the Museum of the Shenandoah Valley. Jex has been included in shows at the Corcoran Gallery, Virginia Museum of Fine Arts, and the Museum of the Shenandoah Valley, along with a solo show in 1975 at the Washington Arts Club.
