CRAWFORD, VA, May 24, 2024 —- Jeffrey S. Evans & Associates is pleased to announce its 46th Semi-Annual Premier Americana Auction to be held June 19 – June 22, 2024. The four-day event features consignments from estates and collections across the country as well as important objects from several institutional deaccessions. Overall, with nearly 1,800 lots of high-quality, fresh-to-the-market material to be sold, the sale is sure to generate plenty of excitement within the collecting community.

Day One, beginning at 9:00 am EST on Wednesday, June 19, 2024, will feature property from a New York, NY private collection; the Matthew T. Hardesty Collection; the Jim and Sandra Hirzel Collection, Reynoldsburg, OH; the collection of Julia Rowe, Alexandria, VA; an Ohio private collection; items deaccessioned by the Bennington Museum, Bennington, VT; the Thomas Jefferson Foundation; and Wilton House Museum, Richmond, VA; plus others. The day’s offerings will include a good selection of free-blown and mold-blown wares; bottles and flasks; utilitarian wares, such as milk pans and bowls; a collection of cup plates; rare colored vases and candlesticks; a fine selection of Sandwich pressed toy articles; plus more. Highlights include a rare Lancaster, NY blown glass pitcher in unusual blue, ex-McKearin; a fine pressed Sandwich tulip vase in deep violet blue with opal marbling; and an outstanding Sandwich blown and decorated glass money box / bank.

Outstanding mid-19th century Pennsylvania Schwenkfelder folk art drawing

 Day Two, beginning at 9:00 am EST on Thursday, June 20, 2024, will feature property from the Larry DeCan estate; the Lee Windborne estate collection, Roanoke, VA; as well as items deaccessioned by the Bennington Museum, Bennington, VT. The day’s offerings will include banquet and other cut-overlay lighting, as well as astral, solar, and argand examples; plus an outstanding selection of primitive lighting, including lanterns, rushlights, wrought-iron, tin, and a good selection of early burners and chimneys; to be immediately followed by a collection of British transferware, featuring a number of Indian Sporting Scenes and Arctic views.

 Highlights for Day Two include a fine pair of J. B. Wilbor (New York) bronze argand lamps in remarkable original  condition, an outstanding cut-overlay quatrefoil and punty kerosene banquet stand lamp, and a rare 19th-century American decorated brass and sheet-iron four-tier chandelier.

Very fine Eastern Virginia Chippendale walnut bottle case / cellaret

Day Three, beginning at 9:00 am EST on Friday, June 21, 2024, will feature the special single-owner auction of the estate collection of Katharine “Kitty Sue” Pease of Los Angeles, CA. Kitty Sue was a life-long Los Angeles resident, who traveled regularly to the East Coast during the 1970s and 1980s in search of antiques and art, particularly Americana and folk art. The Pease Collection will include our usual fine selection of American folk carvings, including several cigar store trade figures and carousel-related material; textiles, including rare needlework and a large selection of quilts and coverlets; trade signs and an excellent selection of folk art, including rare fraktur-related drawings and several Bathing Beauty carvings; American furniture, including paint-decorated examples and several unique forms; a large selection of folk paintings, including several nautical scenes and a fine portrait of a boy attributed to William Matthew Prior; Native American material, including jewelry, baskets, and an excellent selection of beaded articles; early toys, doorstops, and other cast-iron; American scrimshaw; and a good selection of folk art canes and walking sticks.
